- Do you have a dog that is dangerous to other dogs and/or people?
Or, do your dogs fight with one another? Such a dog is a major
liability to own. It is also miserable for both your dog and your
family to have to manage a dog that is out of control. This class is
specifically designed to work with such dogs. In our experience, most
dogs, but not all, can be greatly improved by our special methods.
Some dogs go from being unable to be around other dogs, to being safe
with other dogs. Some dogs go from being extremely dangerous with
people, to allowing themselves to be around strangers, and even some
dogs will allow strangers to approach and pet them.
-
- However, not all dogs can be "cured" by behavior modification
techniques. Anyone who says they can fix any dog isn't being truthful
with you. On the other hand, our Head Trainer, Sam Basso, has years of
professional experience working with dangerously aggressive dogs, and
has turned many of them around. In some cases, the changes are
dramatic. In some cases, the dog can be made, at least, much safer to
manage. And in some cases, some dogs can never be turned around and
need to be euthanized. We will be honest with you in our evaluations
and it will be clear, after working with your dog, how much progress
your dog can make.

- How To Enroll In The Problem Dog Class
-
- First, call us to arrange schedule 2 private lessons with our Head
Trainer, Sam Basso. You can reach him at (602) 708-4531.
-
- Second, we will meet with you and your dog(s), either at Paws To
Play, or at your home, depending upon your location, how dangerous
your dogs are, and your ability to control your dog. You will need to
attend 2 private lessons. One lesson is about Controlling Your Dog.
We need to show you how to control your dog on a leash. The other
lesson is our Problem Dog Manners class. This class shows you
what behaviors we are concerned about, and how to step in when your
dog acts in a way that could lead to an attack. If your dog is
extremely out of control, you might have to purchase additional
private sessions before proceeding onto the group sessions. You will
need to sign our Liability Release Contract.
-
- Third, you will need to purchase some equipment. At the very
least, you will need to purchase a collar plus a special leash from
us, which will cost a total of $50 (price includes tax).
-
- Fourth, we will require that you obtain a muzzle for your dog. We
will give you information concerning what type to buy. Prices for
muzzles vary depending on the size of your dog. If you already have a
muzzle for your dog, we need to approve of it before you use it in the
private sessions, or bring it to the group sessions. A proper muzzle
prevents a dog from being able to bite another dog or person, but
still allows the dog to breathe comfortably. The cheap fabric types
you see sold at the pet stores are NOT acceptable, can come off and
allow the dog to attack, and can cause your dog to suffocate or
overheat.
-
- Fifth, you are then welcome to join our Problem Dog Group class
with your dog(s). These classes are held on Saturdays at 10:00 am. For
the first group session, please arrive 15 minutes early, let us know,
in advance, you are going to attend this class, then when you arrive,
tell our staff through the outside fence you have arrived. For the
other classes, please arrive ON TIME, sign in on your enrollment
card, and wait in your vehicle until the class is ready to start.
Please wait for the previous class to leave the facility before you
bring your dog inside the fenced area. You must keep your dog at least
6 feet from other people and dogs on our property, or you will be
asked to leave and your money will not be refunded. It is your job to
ensure that other people and dogs are not endangered by your dog. That
is the law. And it is our policy.
